Album Art, Spires and Slogans: The Designs Explained
Every At the Gates design in our store comes from the band's albums, logo and slogans. Here is what is printed on each one, so you can pick the one that means the most to you.
Which designs come from Slaughter of the Soul?
Two of them. Slaughter of the Soul Sepia prints the 1995 album's cover art in warm brown tones, with the title in tall script across the back. Slaughter of the Soul Pale Blue turns the same art into rough, ice-blue line work on the front only.
What is the spire logo?
It is the band's tall, pointed logo, the letters stretched up like a cathedral spire. The Red in the Sky Is Ours puts it on the front in textured black, with the 1992 debut album's title in jagged hand lettering on the back. It also sits at the centre of Worldwide Suicidal Legacy, the full-colour art named after the band's 2013 tour, with an all-seeing eye, gothic windows and reaching hands.
Which designs come from the later albums?
To Drink from the Night Itself is a detailed white drawing of three gothic windows wrapped in serpents, named after the 2018 album, with SWEDISH DEATH METAL SINCE 1990 stacked on the back. The Nightmare of Being shows a painted landscape under a burning red sky, with the band name and album title in serif capitals on both sides.
And the rest?
White Wings is a stark white bird with spread wings, built from looping, web-like lines that drip like roots. Quit Your Band is pure type: three words, stacked big in rough black letters.
How do I choose?
Go with the record that hooked you, or the art you'd want to look at every day. Every design comes on tees, long sleeves, crewnecks and hoodies, plus kids' and youth sizes. See them all in the shop.
